Lifesavers in South Africa ยท About this site

Making sense of the mountain.

Lifesaving in South Africa runs on volunteers, and volunteers are busy. Between AGM packs, annexures, circulars and event updates, there's far more to read than anyone with a day job and a patrol roster can get through. This site tries to boil it down to the basics: what's going on, why it matters, and what you can do.

Read this first

This site is made with AI, and AI can be wrong

The content here is AI-harvested: AI tools read the source documents, pull out what matters, and write it up in plain language. That's what makes it possible to cover hundreds of pages quickly. It also means mistakes are possible: a misread figure, a date in the wrong place, a summary that loses a nuance.

Treat everything here as a starting point, not the final word. Every page lists its sources. If something matters to you, check the original, and if this site and the source disagree, the source is right.

How it works

From pile to page

Gather

Information is scoured from publicly available sources, and from the circulars head office sends to provinces and clubs for distribution to members.

Sort

AI reads through it, finds what's relevant to ordinary members, and lines up dates, figures and decisions across documents.

Explain

It's written up in plain language, with charts where they help, and links back to the source for every claim that matters.

Correct

Everything is subject to correction. When we learn something's wrong or out of date, we fix it.

Where it comes from

The sources

  • LSA AGM papers: the agenda and annexures as circulated for the 24th AGM.
  • Head office circulars: the text of the emails, as sent. Attachments that went with them weren't always kept, so some details may be missing.
  • Official websites: lifesaving.co.za, lifesaving2026.com and ilsf.org.
  • Published news reporting, credited where it's used.
What we leave out

Handled with care

  • No contact details. Email addresses and phone numbers are removed from everything we republish, including the circulars.
  • No names of minors. Youth squads are mostly under 18, so we don't name them, even where the source does.
  • No verdicts on people. Where things are unclear, we ask questions rather than draw conclusions.
Who we are

Independent, by members

This site is put together by members of the lifesaving community, for members. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Lifesaving South Africa or the International Life Saving Federation, and nothing here is official. For official information, go to lifesaving.co.za or ask your club or province.

Spotted a mistake, or have a document that fills a gap? Corrections are always welcome, and we'd rather be right than be first.

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It doesn't ask you to sign in or collect anything you type.
